The Methodist Church in Britain has produced a major report on marriage and relationships. It gives us an opportunity to consider such things as the nature of human relationships, the expression of Christian marriage, same-sex relationships and marriage, as well as the increasingly common situation in which people cohabit.
The report is a very important piece of Methodist work and represents a significant shift in our traditional expression and thinking.
It is so important that, after debating the matter and making recommendations, the Methodist Conference meeting in Birmingham last July have passed it to the rest of the church to review and make comment upon their suggestions. Our review and comments will be fed, via the District Synod which meets in April, to the Methodist Conference at its meeting in July 2020.
In order to giver every Methodist member an opportunity to engage with the questions and make their own comments, we are holding a Circuit-wide consultation. We shall be enabled in our conferring by a specially-trained team from the District.
Please come and take part in the process.
Please read the report as only then will you know what we are consulting about. You can read it online by going to the Methodist Church Website. Printed copies will be available from the church stewards in all of our churches. An accompanying Study guide will also be available in order to equip you to prepare for the Circuit Consultation.
The Circuit Consultation will take place at 7pm on Monday 21 October 2019 at Trinity Methodist Church. Radcliffe Street, Royton.
